Diversity in the legal profession

We invited James Abe, Partner at Alston & Bird LLP, incoming Vice Chair of the AIPLA Diversity in IP Law Committee, and current Director of the Los Angeles IPLA, for the topic of "Diversity in the Legal Profession." The discussion was moderated by Takeshi Iizuka. We discussed various issues. What was the most interesting to me is that we should be very conscious of implicit bias. Some sometimes say "it is better to choose the best qualified." But, intangible valuation with unconscious bias creeps in. It seemed to me that his message was this: Japanese legal professionals should take a step forward, such as setting up a diversity committee. We all appreciate his giving us a lot of food for thought!

(Partner at Alston & Bird LLP, incoming Vice Chair of the AIPLA Diversity in IP Law Committee, and current Director of the Los Angeles IPLA)をお招きしました。
