IP and R&D functions integrated with marketing

Wonderful food for thought for not only IP professionals but also all business people. We invited Tanaka-san, Head of IP, Yokogawa this morning. He shared his insights on corporate IP strategy. They say IP should be integrated with other business functions. All agree with it. But how? Interestingly, the IP division he leads is a part of Marketing Headquarters. So is the R&D function. As far as I understood, he utilizes this unique organizational structure in aligning IP strategy with entire corporate strategy. If it is placed under legal function, it is more likely to be defensive. The unique structure may help the IP division better align with business and marketing. Thank you, Tanaka-san!
