We had a fabulous discussion about IP landscape with Takuya Saito. He talked about his initiative of New Business on IP-Landscape-5 or NBIL-5. In his two-year work, he found that pure skill sharing, or purely matching between business needs and skill of IP analyst , who is familiar with IP landscape, does not work. He set off-line meetings with both sides and he found that they were effective. IP professionals often lack business perspective and business people often see IP professionals silo-minded. What to do to make the most of IP landscape? One participant pointed out that both sides have their own perspectives and some tension between them is inevitable and suggested that both side appreciate each other for their contribution. This opinion was echoed by other participants. We often discuss how IP professionals can have business perspectives. But it may be good to focus on collaboration as a team of teams, which comes from idea of the book I recently read "Team of Teams."
